I currently teach playwriting and acting at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. My path here has taken me through several wonderful institutions, including Eastern Mennonite University, Clemson University, and Bloomsburg University, after earning my MFA in Acting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
As the playwriting professor in the School of Theatre and Dance, my goal is for students to see their work come to life—not just in the classroom, but through readings, performances, and collaborative projects that give their words space to breathe and resonate. I continue to teach acting classes and direct at JMU and helped to develop new classess such as Solo Performance and Devising, Imaging, and Inventing. These classes empower students to create from the ground up, discovering how their unique voices can drive the creative process.
My work as an educator has been honored with JMU’s Excellence in Teaching Award (2020) and the Career Champion Award (2019), the latter based on student nominations. In 2022, I contributed a chapter on playwriting to the nationally released online textbook #TheatreAppreciation, edited by Kiara Pipino, which is now used in introductory theatre courses across the country.
I continue to grow in my own artistic practice as well—having studied with the SITI Company in their summer intensive and, in 2025, beginning my training in the Michael Chekhov technique through the Great Lakes Michael Chekhov Consortium.
Whether in the rehearsal room, the classroom, or behind the desk writing, I’m always seeking ways to support new work and amplify new voices.
