Most of my time is spent working alongside playwrights as they develop new work. One of my greatest joys is being a creative midwife—being in the room while playwrights shape their stories. Whether that is as a playwriting teacher, writing coach, actor, or director of new work; I love being present while the words are still being born. I am so grateful for the playwrights I have worked with—both students and professional playwrights —and being witness to their work and process.
At James Madison University, I am the playwriting professor and direct new work for the Madison New Works Lab (MNWL) at James Madison University, a collaborative space where students and faculty connect with accomplished writers in the process of creating. My directing is grounded in process, shaped by curiosity, and always in service of the playwright’s voice.
I currently am the director of the New Play Development Workshop for the annual ATHE conference and have directed new plays for the Comparative Drama Conference, the New Play Program at KCACTF, Pegasus PlayLab at the University of Central Florida, to name a few. My directing is grounded in process, shaped by curiosity, and always in service of the playwright’s voice.
